Six places, and what has actually held in each of them.

Nyakura is 1,900 metres above sea level and effectively two districts for eleven weeks a year, when the Ngeta river crossing becomes impassable. Almost every attendance anomaly in the early surveys resolved to that crossing. The footbridge that now spans it was the first piece of infrastructure Fieldstone ever funded, and it was funded by an education budget.

The federation writes its own rules and publishes its own accounts, and has twice overruled Fieldstone's advice — once on storage fees and once on a warehouse site. Both times it was right. Ninety-one per cent of its operating costs are now met from member fees rather than grants, which is the only number in this region we consider decisive.

Sanjala is where Priya Kandel wrote Fieldstone's maintenance-funding standard, after three well-engineered gravity-fed systems failed inside four years for want of roughly €200 a year each. Every system commissioned in the valley since 2018 has a committee, a levy, and a published annual inspection. All eight are still running.

The ridge is where Fieldstone's teaching fellowship failed and had to be rebuilt. Recruiting nationally produced teachers who could not follow a playground argument; recruiting from the ridge itself halved the intake and raised five-year retention from 34% to 79%. The primers now in use were written by fourteen of those teachers.

Forty-six per cent of the union's operating costs are met from member fees. Until that figure passes eighty, the partnership is working but not succeeding, and we report it that way. The delta also produced the most useful failure of the last five years: a drying floor built in the wrong place, at a cost of €31,000, which the union declined to use and then told us why in writing.

Five village water systems passed entirely to local committees in 2019. Fieldstone has no staff, no office, and no operational role in Tazgart, and inspects the systems annually only because it said it would. Four are working. One failed in 2023 when a flood removed the intake, and the committee rebuilt it in 2024 without asking us for anything.
