In 2022 an external review found that our published retention figures answered a question we had not intended to ask. We withdrew a year, restated six, and changed how we report. This page is what came out of that.
By programme
Where two regions inside one programme behave differently, they are reported separately. An average that describes neither is not a simplification, it is a loss of information.
Guatemala's figure is reported separately because its fellowship model differs materially from the other two after the 2019 rebuild. Aggregating the three would hide the thing worth knowing.
The Sumarai Delta partnership is seven years old and its federation is not yet financially independent of us. We publish it beside Chansolo rather than as an average because the average would describe neither.
The four non-functioning systems are Ighrem (committee dissolved), Kalisari drying floor (sited in error), and two intakes lost to flooding in 2023. All four appear by name in the annual review.

Income of €14.6M against spend of €14.1M. Reserves stand at €3.9M.
Held as approximately 3.3 months of operating cost, in line with the ten-year commitments Fieldstone makes to partner institutions.
Method
A number published without the question it answers, the population it was calculated over, and the date its definition last changed is not published at all. This rule dates from the 2022 methodology rebuild.
Changing how something is measured requires restating the whole series rather than starting a new one. Where a series has been restated, both the original and restated figures remain published side by side.
Programmes and systems below target appear in the same table, the same typeface, and the same place as those above it. Aggregating a failure into a footnote is a form of misreporting.
Post-handover inspection continues annually for as long as a system stands, whether or not Fieldstone still works in that country. The Tazgart Plain has been reported for six years since exit.

Each review names the programmes that underperformed and what changed as a result.
2025
The first review published entirely under the restated methodology, including a full five-year restatement of teacher retention and the first six-year post-exit report on the Tazgart Plain.
2024
Reports the dissolution of the Ighrem water committee and the resulting change to how Fieldstone assesses institutional, rather than technical, risk before commissioning.
2023
Records a €31,000 unrecovered programme cost in the Sumarai Delta, the six-page response from the growers' union, and the four changes to partnership agreements that followed.
2022
The review that withdrew the previous year's retention figures, restated six years of the series, and set out the three reporting rules Fieldstone has published under since.
The clearest test of whether any of this is working is whether a partner institution still stands once we have gone. Six years of post-exit reporting from the Tazgart Plain is the closest thing we have to an answer.
